Some time later, Rilian disappears as do many knights that Caspian sends to search for him.īack on Earth, in which only four years have passed, Eustace Scrubb is trying to adapt to life in England. It is the third installment in The Chronicles of Narnia film series from Walden Media. Lewis 's epic fantasy series The Chronicles of Narnia. Try not to act too relieved. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair is a 2013 fantasy-adventure film based on The Silver Chair, the third novel in C.S. I suddenly realized that I don’t really care about this topic anymore, so I’m going to stop now. But it might confuse some people, so I think Aslan’s crankiness level should be toned down a bit for the film. I don’t really mind it makes sense that he would deal with each person in a different manner. This approach might rob the viewer of a pleasant surprise when the hero is unveiled, but on the other hand, the most ardent fans of these movies have read the books, so they already know the secret.Īnother possible problem is that Aslan sometimes comes across as rather harsh when dealing with Jill. This was because there was no way to disguise her without it looking absurd. In The Lord of the Rings, the filmmakers didn’t bother trying to hide the fact that Dernhelm was Eowyn it was obvious who she was from the moment she befriended Merry. This worked okay, I suppose, but it might be better to just let the audience in on the surprise the moment they see him unmasked, rather than at the moment Puddleglum and the children figure it out. The BBC version handled this problem by having Rilian wear a goofy helmet-mask and giving him a beard. However, in a movie, you’re going to be looking right at him. In the book, the reader is not supposed to know yet that the prince they meet in the underworld is Rilian. There is potential for an entertaining scene at the end, when they go back to our world and teach the bullies a lesson at Experiment House, but they would need to make sure the viewers realize that the bullies are just being scared, not seriously hurt. We can’t really have a big battle with the gnomes, because they turn out to be good guys, unless there are no fatalities.

That’s not a bad thing, mind you, but considering how full of fighting and mayhem the first two films were, audience expectations may have to be considered and accommodated to some degree. Much like Dawn Treader, this story has a lack of physical action. "I've calculated your chance of survival, but I don't think you'll like it." I am thinking in particular about Rickman’s performance as the the voice of the melancholy, Eeyore-esque robot Marvin from Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Speaking of Puddleglum, he could be a CGI creation, but he should at least be voiced by Alan Rickman. This was also a problem in the first two movies, which they alleviated by having the Pevensies (and especially the girls) actually do more stuff than they did in the books. Puddleglum seems to be the hero of the story. One minor problem is that Eustace and Jill really don’t contribute very much. The giants also have the potential to look cheesy, but maybe I’m just thinking about all those giants from Hercules and Xena.

However, it looks like they’re coming out with a movie about talking owls, so maybe it will be okay. I like Glimfeather and his pals, but I’ve been afraid that talking owls would look too ridiculous in a movie. (I noticed that they even managed to sneak Peter and Susan in, too.) After all, it helps to sell a movie when you have recognizable characters. I’m hoping this is just about audience familiarity, too. I’m a little worried about the recently released trailer for Dawn Treader, which seems very Lucy and Edmund-centric, and hardly shows Eustace at all. This means that the Dawn Treader film needs to be Eustace-centric, as the book was, so the viewers will get to know him better. Since all four Pevensies have been ditched by this point, the only recurring main character (not counting Aslan) is Eustace. One problem will be audience familiarity with the characters. Like my previous post, Filming Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, this entry contains idle speculation on how the Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair could be turned into a movie, assuming that they continue on with the series.
